The history of the snowboarding industry is brief but the equipment evolution has been explosive. What was cutting edge in the 80s now only exists in museums and collectors garages. This has levelled off over the past number of years though, so a 5 year old board may look pretty much the same as a brand new one. What will have changed is the stuff inside, and that 5 year old board maybe at the end of it's usable life if it's been used.
